Guidelines

Submission of Manuscript

Before initiating the submission process, the Author Guidelines should be reviewed in full to ensure that the article is in compliance with Journal of Sports Science standards.

Manuscripts submitted to Journal of Sports Science are considered on the understanding that they have not been published, and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere; and that all persons entitled to authorship have been named and have approved the final version of the submitted manuscript. Submitting authors should declare this information in the covering letter.

All manuscripts submitted will be considered for publication. Manuscripts should be sent online at http://www.davidpublisher.com/index.php/Home/Sub/index.html or as email attachments to: [email protected] or [email protected]. If the authors submit their papers online, please make sure that the provided email addresses are valid and unique.

A manuscript file in Microsoft Word (or some other word processing format) is required. If using Microsoft Word, you’d better submit a doc file. Because docx files cannot be processed by the online submission system. Although there are no file size limitations, note that large files will take longer to upload and download depending on the Internet connection. Please try to keep the maximum combined file size to less than 5 MB. Large file sizes (30 MB or greater) may occasionally be needed, but should be avoided if possible.

Cover Letter

A cover letter must be submitted along with the manuscript, stating that the manuscript has not been submitted for publication elsewhere.

Manuscript Preparation and Organization

Manuscripts should follow the style of Journal of Sports Science, be written in concise and grammatically correct English, and be presented in a manner and at a level that will be accessible to the broad readership of the journal. The basic paper format of JSS can be downloaded at the followed website:
http://www.davidpublisher.com/Public/uploads/file/20150318/20150318153623_29967.pdf

Manuscripts may be 4000-15000 words or longer if approved by the editor, including an abstract, texts, tables, footnotes, appendixes, and references. Original manuscripts must be prepared using a standard word processing program (such as Microsoft Word). Manuscript pages should be numbered and prepared with single line spacing, use settings for standard 21 × 28.5 cm paper. Figures should be digitally prepared.

Organize the manuscripts in the following order: Title Page, Abstracts, Key words, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Analysis, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgments, and References. Note that when submitting your manuscript the References must be placed at the end of your document file. Tables and figures should be included as part of your manuscript file.

Title Page. The title page should include the authors’ full names and affiliations, the name, highest education, academic title, research fields and e-mail address of the corresponding author.

Manuscript Title. The full manuscript title should be succinct (approximately 120 characters) and informative. The title should include sufficient detail for indexing but be general enough to be clear to the broad readership. Abbreviations and acronyms, including those for gene and protein names, should be avoided in titles or the general nature of the abbreviated entity should be clear. The title should be on page 1 and not exceed 15 words.

Abstract: You should focus on the structure and English use, this part should include the purpose, topic, method and achievements of the study and around or less than 200 words. Key words should be more than 3 and less than 8.

Tables. Tables should be located in the main text which they are referred. Prepare tables using Word's table feature. Please do not use color, shading or graphics in tables. Number tables consecutively as they are first mentioned in the text. Provide a concise title for each table. Add table notes to make a short general description or explain the meanings of some symbols and abbreviations if necessary.

Figures. Refer to all diagrams, graphs and photographs as “Fig.”. Number figures consecutively according to the order in which they are called out in the text. Figures should be unambiguous and as conceptual as possible and should provide enough information so that the reader can understand them without significant input from the text. Provide a short title for each figure.

JSS does not allow certain electronic enhancements or manipulations of micrographs, gels, or other digital images using Photoshop or any other software. If multiple images are collected into a single figure, be sure to separate them clearly with lines. If a digital tool is used to adjust contrast, brightness, or color, it must be applied uniformly to an entire image; targeted alteration of only part of an image is prohibited.

Figure size. The journal is printed with the two-columns format. The width of one column is about 8 cm and a two-column width is about 17 cm).

We need to receive your figures in electronic form. To minimise publication time of your manuscript and help you get the best printed figures it is important that all electronic artwork is supplied in the correct format and resolution. Please save vector graphics (e.g. line artwork) in EPS format at 600dpi, and bitmap files (e.g. half-tones) in TIFF format at 300dpi.

Black and white figures. Do not save black and white or grayscale images in color mode such as RGB or CMYK, as this will result in huge file sizes.

Color figures. We welcome color figures but please note the current options available. We will then reproduce these figures in grey scale in the hardcopy, but in color online. So if there are color figures in your paper, you can use different lines or symbols to instead of colors if necessary. If the authors indeed want to print the figures in color, they will be charged some color printing fee.

References. The file about the format of references can be downloaded at the followed website:

Review Procedure and Editorial Policy

All manuscripts are allocated to a relevant member of the Editorial board, who decides whether the paper should go forward to peer review. Those that do not will be returned at this stage; we make every effort to do this as quickly as possible (usually within seven days) so that the authors can take their work forward without delay.

Papers sent out for review will, typically, be assessed by two or three independent referees. Authors may nominate potential referees. These should not have been co-authors or collaborators within the past 3 years, nor should they have any other conflict of interest. If authors wish to request the exclusion of certain reviewers specific justification must be provided in the covering letter for the Editor’s consideration.

Editors make a final decision based on the referees’ advice balanced with the editorial policy of the journal to either accept subject to revision, reject with resubmission encouraged (where it is likely that further work or major revisions will bring the paper to Journal standards) or reject (where the work typically has technical problems and/or fails to meet our standards regarding novelty, insight and significance). Revised manuscripts must be received by the date stated by the Editor in the decision letter; if received after this date, the manuscript will be treated as a new submission. Revised manuscripts may be sent for further review, at the Editors’ discretion. All resubmitted manuscripts will be treated as new submissions and undergo the full review system. JSS is committed to rapid publishing. To this end, we strive to return the Editor’s decision and reviewer comments within 35 days of submission and to publish papers within three months of the acceptance date.

Legal Requirements

Submissions must not have been published in, or accepted for publication by, any other journal. The policy of JSS Trust is to acquire an exclusive licence for all contributions. The “Transfer of Copyright Agreement” will need to be signed after any article is accepted for publication.

Fees and Charges. Corresponding authors will be assessed a per page charge of $60. Corresponding authors who are editors/reviewers of JSS will receive a $10 per page discount. There will also be a charge of $5 for each color figure. Publication of an article in Journal of Sports Science is not contingent upon the author’s ability to pay. Under exceptional circumstances that are explained in writing to the Managing Editor, authors may request waiver of the page charges or the color reproduction charges. Authors will need to justify that the color figure is essential for interpreting the results presented in the manuscript. Authors are charged for alterations made in proof that are not due to editor or typesetter errors.

Mailing. The corresponding authors will be received 2 hard copies of the issue of the journal containing their articles if their papers were published in JSS. So the corresponding authors should tell the Managing Editor their physical addresses including the postal code (ZIP code) and the mobile phone number. The postage is 30 US dollars via post office, 50 US dollars via EXPRESS.

Corrections and Retractions. If necessary, corrections of significant errors in published articles will be published in a later issue of the journal. Authors are requested to bring any errors to the attention of the Managing Editor as soon as possible. A correction published in the print journal will also be published as a correction in the online journal. Articles may be retracted by their authors, academic or institutional sponsor, editor, or publisher because of pervasive error or unsubstantiated or irreproducible data. A correction or retraction, so labeled, will appear in a prominent section of the journal, will be listed in the contents page, and will include the title of the original article. The text of a retraction will explain why the article is being retracted and will include a bibliographic reference to it.
