Musical improvisation, a phenomenon transcending eras and cultures, is often linked to jazz but has historical roots in the Baroque period and folk traditions like Irish and Indian music. This article examines the role of improvisation in music education, exploring its significance in the Baroque era, marked by features like cadences and basso continuo, and its integration by composers such as Bach and Händel. Additionally, the improvisational techniques in folk music and jazz are discussed, emphasizing their value and application in educational contexts.
