ABSTRACT
The semanticization of
the term ἀναχώρησις highlights the polysemy of a word capable
of expressing philosophical concepts, such as the universal passage from order
to disorder and vice versa; or scientific-natural concepts, such as water flow
and reflux and vice versa; or notions of military strategy, such as tactical
retreat and counterattack. The specific meaning of withdrawal and return is the
one on which to build the interpretative model of the Christian social and
cultural phenomenon of the anachoresis: not escape from the world, but withdrawal
as a function of a spiritually stronger return to it
