ABSTRACT
This
study examines the influence of school counsellor in preventing the spread of
AIDs/STDs diseases among secondary school students’ in Aba Education Zone of
Abia State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated to
guide the study. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. A
self-restructured four-point scale questionnaire titled “Influence of School
Counsellor in Preventing the Spread of AIDs/STDs Questionnaire” (ISCPSASQ) was
constructed by the researcher and used to collect data for the study. Data
obtained were analyzed by using descriptive inferential statistics. Mean (M) and
standard deviation (SD) were used to answer the research questions while
Chi-Square (x2) was used
to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the
study revealed that counselling significantly influenced prevention and spread
of AIDs/STDs among secondary school students. Based on the findings, it was
recommended that accurate and timely information, methods, and materials to
help the students gain the knowledge, attitude, and skills needed for realistic
and appropriate sexual behavior should be made available to them.
