Wurtzite ZnO nanoparticles were prepared in aqueous solutions with additives of Triton (Tx-100), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). HRTEM micrographs and XRD of all samples are showed nearly spherical nanoparticles with average particle size of 3.4-11 nm. A significant blue shift in the excitonic absorption, for nanoparticles prepared in the presence of surfactants Tx-100 and CTAB compared to that of the ZnO nanoparticles. The particle size calculations from the absorption edge showed that ZnO nanoparticles grown with CTAB have smallest particle size and lowest Stokes shift.
