ABSTRACT

The present paper discusses the semantic cognition of the emerging Chinese construction “X zhu le (住了)” from grammatical to rhetorical construction. It is found that “zhu” within this construction undergoes the transition from indicating “firmness” and “pause” to a more abstract state, highlighting the richness of “X”. In addition, this construction, affected by both internal and external linguistic factors, shows a trend of colloquialization and visualization.
